Medeski & Martin’s Mago

I’ve been totally out of the MMW loop for the past several years, but every once and a while, I’ll sit down and crank up some Tonic or Notes from the Underground. I guess they put out a few new albums (“End of the World Party” and “Out Louder”, a second album with hippie magnet John Scofield). So, it appears that Medeski (p) and Martin (d) have put out a new album- or it is coming out soon. Here’s a link to a video from it, kinda reminiscent of Combustication.

Speaking of Tonic…did you know it was closing? Sad story. I’m glad I got to check it out while I could.

-remember when I said I was going to push M. Ward on you, reader, until you fold? Here are a couple tracks from him. He’s playing 2 dats in june with the boston symphony orchestra, and I wish i could go. it would be amazing.

5. Parts & Labor – Fractured Skies

6. Pavement – Range Life

-with all the talk of the new Smashing Pumpkins, it reminded be that they just don’t have no function.

7. Ted Leo/RX – Parallel or Together?

-I’ve listened to the new album a few times, and it really makes me wish ted leo still sounded like this.

1. Akron/Family – Before and Again
it’s slow, it’s quiet, i like it and i like them. it shows up in study-music rotations on a regular basis
2. Elvis Costello – New Lace Sleeves
it’s about as old as i am, so nothing new. one of my all-time favorite elvis tracks from an under appreciated elvis album
3. Jail – Rocker (Now in Stores)
it’s vinnie and austin’s band, from their new EP as of Aug. 06. Check ‘em out at http://www.myspace.com/jailjailjailjail
4. Spoon – The Book I Write
from the soundtrack of “Stranger than Fiction”, in case you haven’t heard this song yet
5. Sufjan Stevens – The Lord God Bird
about some woodpecker thought to be extinct that showed up in the south.
6. Ted Leo/Rx – The Unwanted Things
from his upcoming “Living with the Living” album. This is one of my favorite tracks so far. The second half of the album is far superior to the first.
7. TV On The Radio – Wolf Like Me
good song from a really good album from a band where each album is better than the last
